School Search Overview

Finding a school that serves the unique needs of a gifted student can be a challenge. This section of the Gifted Resource Center is designed to assist you in this process. Institute staff have created various search tools and gathered a great deal of information regarding schools that have experience working with gifted students.

The School Preference Search provides you with the opportunity to conduct school searches based on a number of characteristics, including (but not limited to) the state in which the school is located, the name of the school, the geographic setting of the school and the age/grade levels that the school serves. The more preferences you indicate, the fewer results your search will generate, and vice versa.

The Student Profile Tool - School Search consists of approximately 50 questions aimed at creating a student profile that matches key characteristics to those of relevant schools. Unlike the School Preference Search, you must answer all of the questions in order to create the most accurate student profile possible. Click on one of the links below to immediately begin your school profile search:

Both school search tools are intended to enhance rather than replace standard assessments. The Institute's goal is to provide a customized starting point in the search for the most appropriate school. To ensure that a particular school is the best match for a gifted student, it is important to personally conduct additional research on each of the schools in which you are interested.

In addition, the Institute has also provided a comprehensive list of possible School Interview Questions, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), and a Glossary of Useful Terms to assist you when conducting your own research of a school. Please use this list to guide your efforts in finding the most appropriate school. If you should need further assistance, please visit the Consulting Services section of the Gifted Resource Center.
